This 16 Days Uganda Walking Safari will showcase the best that Uganda has to offer, from birding to city tour, culture and wildlife. 16 Days Trip Itinerary

Upon arrival, you will be met by SafeDriver Africa Safaris guide who will transfer you to your overnight Guest house. Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to take a boat excursion to Ngamba Island (optional and not included), visit the nearby Botanical gardens or Uganda Wildlife Education center for a short excursion tour and birding. After an early breakfast at the hotel, we will drive to Mabamba swamp, which is located on the shores of Lake Victoria, traditionally one of the few and best places to spot the rare and elusive shoebill stock in central Uganda. The bird species that we expect to encounter here include the Goliath Herons, White faced whistling Duck, White-winged Warbler, Lesser Jacana, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Winding Cisticola, Yellow-backed, Golden-backed, Vieillot’s Black, Weyns’s and Orange weaver and Red-headed Lovebird among others. The birding at mabamba swamp, we normally use a canoe to maneuver through the thin pass in the swamp until we find the mabamba shoebill stock as well identify other bird species, which makes the whole activity exciting. Later in the afternoon we will drive back to the guest house for lunch before heading for a walking safari tour of Botanical garden. After breakfast, you will check out of the guest house and we will drive to Lake Mburo national park with stopover at the Equator for photographs and equator experience. There after you will proceed to your lodge for lunch. After lunch you take a cycling trip around the park or inside the communities and see the way of life of people living around conservation area. The tour takes between 2-3 hours. Drive time: approximately 5-6 hours Accommodation: Hand-picked hotel Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

After breakfast, you driver guide will drive you to the park for guided walking safari. Lake Mburo National Park is home to buffaloes, zebras, impalas, birds and others. Retire to the lodge for lunch, relaxation and then an evening boat cruise on the Lake. After lunch and short relaxation, you will be driven to the lake to meet your captain of the day who will take you for a two hour boat excursion. Lake Mburo boat cruise is an opportunity to see hippos, crocodiles, water bird such as the African fish eagle and the rare African fin foot. Many animals such as buffaloes and antelopes gather here to drink some water so an opportunity to enjoy wildlife most especial marine animals. After your boat cruise, you will retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast at the lodge, you will head out for a cycling guided tour around the park. Lake Mburo national park has a number of well-established cycling routes that go through the flat or plain savannah grasslands, through the swampy valleys and the forested hills of Lake Mburo national park. The cycling trip in Lake Mburo national park is organized depending on your preference, the more adventurous travellers can take on the cycling in the hilly routes of the park, whereas the others can take the flat routs with in the savannah grassland of Lake Mburo national park. Bicycle riding in Lake Mburo national park is guided by the game rangers from the Uganda Wildlife Authority offices of the park. The guides will help you follow in the safe routes for cyclists in Lake Mburo national park. The mountain bikers can still enjoy biking in Lake Mburo national park; there are challenging stretches that they can use to have their fun time at maximum. Cycling time is 1-2 hours. In the late afternoon you will relax at the lodge.

After breakfast, you will drive through Mbarara town to Buhoma, approximately 4-5 hours, arriving in time for lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon you go out for a community walk, visiting the hospital, orphanages and the Batwa Pygmies tribe. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

After an early morning breakfast, with your packed lunch, you will report to the Park Headquarters at about 7:45 am for registration and then you will join other trackers for a briefing about the Dos and the Don’ts during your Gorilla Tracking safari. Your guides will lead you through the thick creepers and undergrowth as you trek to find the Gorillas. This trek can take you half an hour to three quarters of the day. The steeply forested landscape is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. The amount of time you take during the trek largely depends on the movement of the gorillas. But it is an extraordinary feeling being with these beautiful yet endangered Creatures. This morning you will depart for a walking safari across Bwindi Impenetrable forest from Buhoma to Nkuringo. The walking safari across Bwindi Impenetrable Forest from Buhoma in the north to Nkuringo in the south through Ivy or Kashasha hiking trails is the most rewarding hiking adventure in this pristine jungle after the gorilla trekking excursion. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay at a hand-picked hotel.

After breakfast, you will head out for a walking tour around Lake Mutanda. Lake Mutanda trails, hiking through native communities, villages, and a dugout canoe ride on Lake Mutanda. The trail otherwise follows village footpaths through outstanding scenery with often 360-degree views of cultivated mountain slopes, mountain forests, and human settlements. You will return to your lodge for lunch before heading out for canoe trip along Lake Mutanda in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

After an early breakfast, you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The driving time is about 4 hours. After checking in at your hotel, have lunch before driving to Katwe salt mining site. Lake Katwe is a customary lake on which salt mining is done, formed through long ago volcanic eruption close to 10,000 years back. The adjacent local community extracts the rock salt directly from this lake all through to the landing site and there it is dried and later sold. Taking a trip to this lake Katwe, offers an opportunity to learn about the skill of salt water, as well as a chance to directly interact with the salt miners regarding their experience in salt mining. Since the 16th century this mine has been in existence and miners are up to date using the traditional methods while harvesting the salt. You will return to your hotel for dinner & overnight stay.

After an early morning breakfast, you will drive to Kasenyi plains for your game drive safari. Kasenyi plains boost of several wild animals whose chance of seeing them depends on your luck of the day. On a good day, you may spot big cats like lions and leopards hunting, buffaloes, elephants, several antelopes, warthogs and other small mammals. Return to the lodge for lunch and then drive to Mweya peninsular for a two hour boat cruise on Kazinga channel. Kazinga channel has the highest concentration of hippos in the whole world, over 400 water bird species and is a place where most animals converge to drink water. You will have high chances of spotting hippos, birds, elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles and so much more. Retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, you will drive to Kibale Forest National Park. After checking in at your hotel, you will have lunch and then after go for a community walk where you will get to know the life in rural Africa. Driving time from Queen to Kibale is about 3 hours. Lunch, Dinner and overnight stay at a hand-picked hotel.

After breakfast you will follow an experienced guide into the forest to observe the fascinating chimps at a close range. Watching them interact with each other and go about their daily routine of grooming, playing and foraging is an incredible experience. Chimpanzees share 98% of our human DNA, making them our closest living relatives. The habits and biology of these primates are so fascinating to study. Chimpanzees are easily sighted in Uganda due to the high concentration of the species here. Later in the day you will go for swamp walk at Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary to spot 8 primate species, over 200 bird species, butterflies and various reptiles. The highlight of the swamp walk is spotting the beautiful great blue turaco. The Swamp Walk is operated by KAFRED, a registered CBO and the income is used to develop community projects like hospitals. Breakfast, lunch, dinner & overnight stay at a hand-picked hotel.

After breakfast you will drive for 5 hours to Murchison Falls National Park. Murchison Falls located in the northern part of Uganda is the largest conservation area at 3840 square km. The park is traversed by the mighty River Nile and is one of the exciting National Park to visit during your Uganda safari. Murchison Falls National Park has several vegetation types ranging from swamps, tropical rainforests of Budongo, Savannah woodland and grassland that are home to a variety of wildlife that include chimpanzees in Budongo forest, lions, hyenas, buffaloes, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, the rare shoebill stock, small primates and other savannah, marine and forest species. Visitors to Murchison Falls National Park should not miss out on spectacular game drives and boat cruises to the base of the falls and delta. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay at a hand-picked hotel.

After breakfast, you will drive to the northern part of Murchison Falls National Park for your early morning game drive. This northern part of Murchison Falls National Park known as Paraa is rich in wild game that include lions, buffaloes, elephants, several antelopes, leopards and so much more. The delta region is also very rich with water animals such as hippos, crocodiles and the rare shoebill stock. At Murchison Falls National Park, it is nature that gives so the fact that wild animals graze and move naturally, seeing any animal will depend on your luck of the day. Afterword’s, you will drive back to your lodge for lunch and then head for the afternoon boat cruise to the base of the falls. This boat cruise to the base of the falls is seen as the highlight of all activities at Murchison Falls National Park since many water and land animals can be sighted. Expect to see lots of Buffaloes, elephants, crocodiles, many water birds as you cruise up stream to the base of the falls where water squeezes itself into a narrow gorge to later explode as it flows down words. This morning, after breakfast you will drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino tracking. Lunch will be en-route at Kabalega resort or Ziwa depending on the time. You will then continue to Kampala or Entebbe Airport for your departure flight. End of the tour. Extra accommodation can be arranged at extra cost.
